All of them are in Paradise except one?
Question:

I have known this hadeeth for a long time, and I act upon it to the utmost without ceasing, and the hadeeth is: My nation – this nation – will split into 73 sects, all of them in the Fire except one and it is that which is upon what I and my Companions are upon today. And I know this hadeeth in this form. However I was revising some books and I saw this hadeeth with an addition which was in one narration: …all of them are in Paradise except one. And by Allaah, the Tremendous and Magnificent, this narration troubled me greatly. Is it the reality that all of them are in the Fire except one, or are all of them in Paradise except one?
Answer:

It is established in the hadeeth in all its narrations that

…all of them are in the Fire except one.

As for the narration ‘all of them are in Paradise except one’ then there is no basis to this.

And with Allaah is the tawfeeq. And may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
