Ruling Concerning the Delaying of the Making up of the Days of Ramadaan
|
Question:
What is the ruling concering delaying the making up of the days of Ramadhaan until after the following Ramadhaan?
|
Answer:
Whoever broke his fast during Ramadhaan due to travelling, illness, and so forth, must make up those days before the next Ramadhaan. Between the two Ramadhaans our Lord has given us ample time. If one delays it beyond the next Ramadhaan, one must make up the missed days and feed a poor person for every day. This was the ruling of a group of the Companions of the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam . One should give half a sa' of the staple food of the land. This is approximately one and a half kilograms of dates, rice or something of that nature. If the person makes up the fasts before the next Ramadhaan, there is no obligation to feed others.
