The Ruling on the Imamate of One Whose Head is Uncovered
Question:

Is it permissible for an Imam to leave his head uncovered?
Answer:

The head is not Awrah in prayer, or at any other time for men, whether they are of age or not; therefore, it is not compulsory to cover it in prayer or at any other time. However, covering the head with something suitable is customary and it does not conflict with the Islamic law, and from the point of view of beautifying oneself, it is preferred to cover the head in prayer, based upon the Words of Allaah: O sons of Adam! Take your adornment (by wearing your clean clothes) in every mosque. [1] And this is more so for the Imam.
