The Legislative Way of Dealing With Two Disputing Parties
If there occurs between a teacher and a teacher – or a student and a student – or a teacher and a student some dispute and argument, then it is impermissible for anyone to aid either of them until he comes to know of the truth. So he does not aid him upon ignorance – nor with desires. Rather he looks into the affair, then if the truth becomes clear to him then he aids the one who is upon the truth from the two of them over the one who is upon futility. Whether the one who is upon the truth is from his companions or from the companions of other than himself, and irregardless of whether the one upon futility is from his companions or from the companions of other than himself. Therefore the intent is the worship of Allaah alone – and obedience to His Messenger and following the truth and the establishment of justice.

Allaah The Most High said:

((O you believe! Stand out firmly for justice as witnesses to Allaah, even if it be against yourself or your parents or your kin. Whether he be rich or poor Allaah is better Protector to both. So do not follow desires lest you avoid justice. And if you distort [your witnessing] or refuse to give it then indeed Allaah is All-Aware of that which you do.)) Soorah An-Nisaa: 135

It is said: concerning the distortion (in the verse): that he distorts with his tongue thus informing with lies; and the refusal (in the verse): is to hide the truth: for indeed the one who is silent in regards to the truth is a mute Satan.

Then whosoever becomes biased along with his companion – whether the truth is for him or against him – then he has ruled with the ruling of Jaahiliyyah (ignorant times) and has thus come out of the ruling of Allaah and His Messenger. It is obligatory upon all of them that they be as one hand – along with the one upon the truth over the one upon futility. Such that the one who is venerated with them is one who is venerated with Allaah and His Messenger, and the one who is given precedence with them is one who is given precedence with Allaah and His Messenger, and the one who is loved by them is the one who is loved by Allaah and His Messenger. Likewise the one who is contemptible with them is one who is contemptible with Allaah and His Messenger in accordance to the pleasure of Allaah and His Messenger – not in accordance to desires.

For indeed whosoever obeys Allaah and His Messenger then he has been guided; whosoever disobeys Allaah and His Messenger then he harms no one but himself.
