The extreme ones from amongst this Ummah resemble the Christians
Question:

The extreme ones from amongst this Ummah resemble the Christians
Answer:

So the extreme ones from amongst this Ummah resemble the Christians; such as those who are extreme towards Ahlil Bayt (the household of the Prophet), and those who claim to be from Ahlil Bayt such as the Isma’eeliyyah. Likewise those who are extreme towards some of their Scholars, so in both this group and that group there is to be found the resemblance of the Christians. They turn the true and just statement which itself has been proven by The Book and the Sunnah against those who they claim have gone into extremes by: swearing, and reviling, and belittling them – just as the Christians do. The broader explanation of these affairs have their places elsewhere, but the purpose is to highlight caution over these statements so that the person should be able to distinguish between what Allaahs Messenger came with, and between what resembles it – and yet is not from it. So he should know the Sharee’ah (legislation) of the Messenger concerning which Allaah said:

((Then We have put you upon a Sharee’ah of (Our) commandment, so follow it and do not follow the desires of those who do not know. For indeed they can avail you nothing against Allaah, and the wrong-doers are helpers - some of them towards others, and Allaah is the Helper/protector of the Muttaqeen [those who are dutiful and fearful towards him])) (Soorah Al-Jaathiyah: 18-19).

So the Ummah of Muhammad (Sallaallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) will not unite upon misguidance, and for Allaah is all praise and graciousness in that; rather there will never cease to be from amongst them those that stand with the truth until the establishment of the hour, therefore because of this there will always be in his Ummah those that will differentiate between the path of the Shar’iyyah (Islamic legislation) and the path which is bid’iyyah (innovative). So they distinguish that which the Messenger came with from that which other than him said; such that if it is requested from the Muslim that he follow the Messenger then it be possible for him to do so – because of the presence of those who truly know this from amongst the Ummah; in contrast to the Christians, and the people of innovation. For when the innovations became rampant amongst the Christians, and became widespread, and knowledge decreased amongst them, then it became unfeasible or difficult for them to differentiate between what the Maseeh (Messiah) commanded with, and between what other than him commanded with, rather this became mixed with that, and there appeared in their hands books which contained these mixtures that dubiously contain in them truth and falsehood.

Likewise are the people of innovation, like those of them that necessitate following other than the Messenger (Sallaallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) be he a Shaikh, or an Imaam, or other than that, you will find that they have affairs which have been uttered by their Shaikh or their Imaam, or from ‘Alee radiyallaahu ‘anhu, or from other than him, and in it will be truth and falsehood, and it will not be possible for them to distinguish between the truth of it and the false of it, you will find them narrating ahaadeeth from the Prophet (Sallaallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) without knowing the truth of it from the falsity of it.
