Yes, it is authentically reported that the Prophet-Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallm- told this to the Companions and showed them their tracks.Read what Ibn Katheer wrote in his Tafsir in his comment on Surah Al-Ahqaf: And remember when We sent to you a party of the Jinn to listen to the recitation of the Qur'an[1].
